1957 Zippo advertising Chesterfield Cigarettes. Chesterfields, a major brand in the were popular among Hollywood celebrities, and even Ronald Reagan helped advertise them.

Smoking has a very long history .  By 1917, the three leading brands in the United States were Lucky Strike, Camels and Chesterfields.   The obvious connection between tobacco, smoking and the Zippo lighter has made tobacco Zippos one of the most popular themes for collectors.  Camel advertising on the Zippo in particular has become hugely popular.  The broad scope of Camel Zippos can be seen on Max Cady's Zippo Pro Shop site with page after page of Camel advertisers.

1955-56 Zippo for Viceroy Filter Tip Cigarettes.  The reverse reads "ATS  1956". Viceroy originated in the in 1936 as the world's first cork-tipped filter cigarette.

1952-53 color line-drawn Lucky Strike Zippo. The "Luckies" brand  was introduced in 1871.

 

1997 Zippo advertising  Marlboro menthol cigarettes.  The shape of Marlboro packs is so well known no words are needed.  The non-menthol model has a red cap.
