John Lewis (1880-1969) was president
of the United Mine Workers of America from
1920 to 1960 and was the driving force
behind the founding of the Congress of
Industrial Organizations, which established
the United Steel Workers of America and
helped organize millions of other industrial
workers in the 1930s. |

Phoenix". Barry Goldwater (1909 – 1998)
was a five-term
United States Senator from
Arizona and the
Republican Party's nominee for
President in the
1964 election which he lost to Lyndon
Johnson. He was known as
"Mr. Conservative" and has been credited for sparking the resurgence of the
American conservative political movement in
the 1960s. |

W.A. "Tony" Boyle (1904-1985) was president
of the UMWA & from 1963 to 1972. In 1973 he
was convicted and imprisoned for embezzling
$49,250 from the union and in 1977 he was
convicted of murder-for-hire of Jock
Yablonski, an adversary for the
presidency of the union, and his wife and
daughter. Tony Boyle spent the remainder of
his life in prison. |

1973 Zippo with Lester Maddox an avowed
segregationist who
was also known for
riding bicycles backwards. Lester Maddox
(1915–2003) was governor of Georgia from
1967-1971 and first became famous in 1964
for banning black Americans from his
restaurant. |

The Zippo is dated
1974, six years following the assassination
of of the civil rights leader in 1968 who
has since become
an icon of human rights. |

Here are two prototype Zippos from 1995,
one brass, the other high-polish, that were
made at the time that the nation was
speculating on the outcome of the
controversial trial for the murders of
Nicole Simpson and
Ronald Goldman. Is OJ innocent or is he
guilty? Orenthal James "O. J." Simpson, nicknamed "The Juice", is a retired football player, broadcaster, actor, and spokesman. He was the first NFL player to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season,
and holds the record for the single season
yards-per-game average. While he was found
innocent of the murder, he was ultimately
found guilty in 2008 of unrelated felonies
and is currently serving a nine-year
sentence in a correctional facility in
Nevada.. |
