Major Brand Zippos

The advertiser Zippo lighters shown below are from 1959 through the end of the 1960's.

1964 Zippo with a bar of Dial Soap. It was introduced in the early 1950's with the slogan "Aren't you glad you use Dial? Don't you wish everybody did?"

1959 Zippo for Dr Scholl Foot Comfort Shop, 215 W. Washington Ave, South Bend, Indiana. The Scholl Manufacturing Co., Inc. was founded in 1907 in Chicago by William Mathias Scholl, a medical doctor specializing in the anatomy and physiology of the foot.

1959 high-polish Zippo with a silk-screened Kodak logo and "The Photo Sale Never Ends". The name Hugh Sorensen is engraved on the reverse. The first "Kodak" camera was sold to consumers in 1888 by George Eastman with the slogan "You press the Button, we do the Rest"

1961 Zippo with the Chase Manhattan Bank logo.. While the bank came into existence in the merger of The Bank of The Manhattan Company with Chase National Bank, it traces its roots back to 1799.

1969 slim Zippo for Univac. The Univac was the first business computer introduced to the world in 1949 by Remington Rand.

1959 Zippo for 1898Friden Service Training School with rare box (image of box to come). Friden Inc. was founded in 1934 by Carl Friden, a Swedish immigrant, and produced high-quality calculators until it was acquired by Singer in 1965, The reverse is engraved "P. Morgan".

1962 Zippo advertising GE, or General Electric.

1963 Zippo with Allied Van Lines "Allied 1" logo and Allied World's Largest Mover. The reverse reads "Hunter Transfer & Storage Company Texarkana, Texas." Founded in 1928, Allied is the nation's leading moving & storage company.

1967 Zippo for A&P' Atlantic Division with a heart and "Thanks a Billion". The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company has a 150 year-old history and was America's leading grocery store chain in the 1960's.

1959 Zippo for "GE Lamp Metals & Components Department". The General Electric Company was organized in 1892 by Thomas A. Edison.

1959 Zippo for Sheraton Hotels. The reverse side reads "Sheraton Inn Binghamton NY May, 1959".

1960 Zippo for Victor Calculators.

1967 Zippo advertising Efferdent Denture Cleanser Tablets. Efferdent is a product of Pfizer, Inc., a leading producer of pharmaceuticals and other health related products.

1968 Zippo with an attached original Burger King logo badge of the King sitting on a Whopper with a soda. Burger King was started in the late 1950's as Insta/Burger King until 1967 when the company was acquired by Pillsbury, changing both the company name and logo at that time. The name of "Charlie Hamm (?)" has been crudely scratched into the reverse side.

1960 Zippo advertising RCA Whirlpool washers and dryers. "Your family will love our family of RCA Whirlpool Home Appliances". The reverse reads "RCA Whirlpool Home Appliances."

1960 Zippo with a colorful box of the detergent "All - For Automatic Washers". All is a product of Unilever, one of the world's leading producers of household products.

1965 Zippo with Bell & Howell Camera with the image of a 16 mm film projector. Bell & Howell (now ProQuest) was founded in 1907 and was a leading movie projector and motion picture camera company.

1968 Zippo for Friden. The engraving is of a Friden EC-130 model, one of the first electronic calculators introduced in 1964.

1959 Zippo for "Safeway Kraft-O-Rama Wash., D.C. June 1959". Safeway traces its origins back to 1915 when M.B. Skaggs bought a grocery store in American Falls, Idaho.

1968 Zippo for Bechtel, the world's largest civil engineering company. It was founded by the Bechtel family in the 1920's and is today still controlled by the Bechtel family.

1967 Zippo for Diners Club. The Diners Club was the very first credit card created and introduced by Frank McNamara in 1950.

1968 Sealy. Sealy is the largest bedding company in North America. Sealy, is a small town in Texas and was the home of Daniel Haynes, a cotton gin builder, who began making cotton-filled mattresses in 1881.
