Zippos
See a painted leather Gulf advertising Zippo HERE Leather-covered Zippos first appeared in 1950. The first model was the full-leather covered Zippo which was only produced in the early 1950's. In 1952 the "leather-wrap" made its first appearance and production continued until 1960.

Leather-covered Zippos was also used for advertising. This Zippo advertises Forest Oil Corporation which began operations in 1916 in the Bradford Oil Field in Pennsylvania and which is still in business today.
This 1952 Zippo in green reptile has a $6.00 price tag. A big jump in price in one year! This is 1951 "Leather-wrap" Zippo wrapped in "coal black" Moroccan leather. This 1955 skin colored leather-wrap Zippo is a prototype. This Zippo advertises DeLuxe Steel Products in gold leaf. This full-leather Zippo is covered in "Hand Burnished Calfskin". The "full-leather" is a fully leather-wrapped Zippo has gold-leaf borders on front and back. "Zippo" in gold-leaf letters can be found on the bottom. The basic models came in green, red, blue and tan. The Zippos on the left and right are crafted in "Hand Grained Genuine English Morocco. This 1951 Zippo is wrapped in brown reptile leather. This still has its original $4.75 price tag.
