Cartoon Characters on Zippos

Newspaper comic strips with cartoon characters have a long history, but cartoon characters did not "come alive" until the advent of animated cartoons in the early 1900's.  In 1928 Walt Disney made the first animated film with sound with Mickey Mouse in Steamboat Willie. As the history of animated films shows, many cartoon characters have come and gone. While images of Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and others can be found on vintage Zippo lighters here, today's attitude towards smoking makes it unlikely that likenesses of today's characters and brands such as Shreck, Pokemon, or Harry Potter will appear on any lighters.  The vintage and mostly rare Zippos here have stories to tell and are tangible and enduring reminders of artistic and creative accomplishments in our past.
