This line-drawn 1949 Zippo for
Glessner Motor Inc advertises The Tucker '48 "Torpedo" automobile. Conceived
by Preston Thomas Tucker (1903-1956), a car salesman with a flair for
promotion, the Tucker '48 was lower, longer and faster than any other American
car at the time and was advertised as "the car you have been waiting for."
Only fifty-one Tuckers were produced before the Securities and Exchange
Commission forced the Tucker Corporation's plant to shut down, putting an end
to yet another independent automobile manufacturer.
